Feasting Festival

July of the lunar calendar is always a very religious month in Taiwan. Also, there’s more events going on in every community because of our local beliefs. 中元節 is one of them, we call the event as 中元普渡.

In tradition, people in Taiwan believe July is a month for our ancestors to come back. Therefore, we usually prepare a big feast for this festival every year. Meanwhile it becomes a good opportunity for commercial promotion in the markets.

In my childhood, the most interesting thing was not the meaning of this festival but going shopping for snacks which were prepared for this religious ceremony. Although years have passed, preparing a table full of snacks has also become a tradition in our family.
